Why this matters?
We, the residents and supporters of Salt Springs, FL, are deeply concerned about the impending closure of the Salt Springs Recreation Area (SSRA).
The recent unilateral decision by the forestry service to not renew the concessionaire’s contract has raised fear and concern in our community.
We urge the US Forest Service to meet with the residents of Salt Springs, provide clarification and reconsider the decision not to renew a concessionaire for SSRA.
We believe that with community involvement, alternative management solutions can be explored to ensure the continued operation and preservation of this invaluable public space.
Closure of the springs would leave a significant void in the fabric of our town and significantly Impact the local economy. The SSRA attracts visitors, supports local businesses, and enhances property values. Its closure could have far-reaching economic consequences for Salt Springs.
Engage the Community: Hold public forums and community meetings to discuss the concerns and ideas of Salt Springs residents regarding the future of the park.
Explore Alternatives: Investigate alternative management options, including community partnerships, non-profit management, or other creative solutions that can ensure the park’s sustainability.
